Why refinish

Is cabinet refinishing right for your Cincinnati kitchen?

Cabinet refinishing in Cincinnati means keeping the cabinets you already have and giving them a new, sprayed finish instead of tearing them out and starting over. At Slye's Painting, we take the doors and drawer fronts off, degrease and sand every surface, prime, and spray the coating before everything goes back on. You get the new color and clean look of a kitchen update without weeks of demolition, dust and delivery dates.

It works for a sleek, minimal kitchen and for a warm farmhouse one, and we shape the look around your home and your style. Michael Slye founded the company in 2015, and every project includes two years of worry-free touch-ups at no cost. If your cabinet boxes are solid and you like your layout, refinishing is the faster, more cost-effective way to refresh a kitchen.

Our refinishing helps you save money while still getting dramatic results, gives you a quicker turnaround than a full remodel, and is a more sustainable way to update your space.

The finish

What is an Envirolak sprayed finish?

Envirolak is the cabinet coating we use at Slye's Painting. We spray it rather than brush or roll it, so it goes on in even coats without brush strokes or roller texture. Spraying is also why the doors and drawer fronts come off first and the rest of the kitchen is masked off before any coating goes on.

  • Sprayed, not brushed. The coating levels out into a smooth, even surface on doors, drawer fronts and face frames.
  • Prep first. Degreasing, sanding and priming come before the spray, because the finish is only as good as the surface under it.
  • Your look. Crisp white, deep charcoal or soft sage, we match the finish to the style you have in mind.

Our spray process

How we refinish kitchen cabinets, step by step

Six steps from bare doors to a finished kitchen. Each one sets up the next.

  1. Remove the doors

Doors, drawer fronts and hardware come off the cabinet boxes so every surface can be reached.

  2. Degrease

Kitchen cabinets pick up cooking grease and daily wear. We clean every surface so the new coating can hold.

  3. Sand

Sanding smooths the old finish and gives the primer something to grip.

  4. Prime

A primer coat seals and evens out the surface before color goes on.

  5. Spray

With the kitchen masked off, we spray the Envirolak finish in even coats for a smooth look.

  6. Reinstall

Doors and drawer fronts go back on, hardware is replaced, and we walk the kitchen with you.

Timing

Quicker than a remodel

A remodel can disrupt your daily life for weeks or even months. Refinishing is quicker, and the exact timeline depends on how many doors, drawers and cabinet boxes your kitchen has and the drying time between steps. We talk through timing with you when you book your estimate.

Questions

Cabinet refinishing in Cincinnati: your questions

How much does cabinet refinishing cost in Cincinnati?

Cabinet refinishing in Cincinnati is priced by the job. The cost depends on how many doors and drawer fronts you have, the size and condition of your kitchen, and the color and finish you want. Refinishing usually costs less than replacing cabinets because you keep your existing boxes. Book an estimate and we will go over your kitchen with you.

What is included when you refinish kitchen cabinets?

Our cabinet refinishing process covers removing the doors and drawer fronts, degreasing, sanding, priming, spraying the Envirolak finish and reinstalling everything. Kitchen cabinets collect cooking grease and daily wear, so the prep steps matter as much as the spray. The result is a smooth, even finish on the cabinets you already own, without a remodel.

How long does cabinet refinishing take?

Cabinet refinishing is quicker than a full kitchen remodel, which can disrupt daily life for weeks or even months. The exact timeline for your Cincinnati kitchen depends on how many doors, drawers and cabinet boxes need work, plus the drying time between steps. We talk through timing with you when you book your estimate, so you know what to expect.

Do you refinish cabinets outside Cincinnati?

Yes. Slye's Painting refinishes cabinets in Cincinnati and nearby Indian Hill, Norwood, White Oak, Anderson Township, Milford and Loveland, and across the river in Northern Kentucky, including Covington, Florence, Fort Thomas, Newport and Erlanger. If your town is close by but not listed, ask when you book your estimate.

Should I refinish or replace my kitchen cabinets?

Refinish if your cabinet boxes are solid and you are happy with the layout, because you get a fresh color and finish without demolition. Replace if the boxes are damaged or you want to change the layout. For kitchens with sound cabinets, refinishing is the faster, more cost-effective route, and we will tell you plainly which fits yours.

What does the touch-up promise mean for refinished cabinets?

Every Slye's Painting project, cabinet refinishing included, comes with two years of worry-free touch-ups at no cost, once a year for two years. It is our way of standing behind the work after the job is done. The details of what is covered are on our worry-free touch-ups page, and we are happy to explain how they apply to your kitchen.
